Virginia Department of Education Policies For Gender Expansive Students Finalized!

We are happy to announce that the proposed policies for the equitable treatment of gender expansive (transgender and gender non-binary) public K-12 Virginia school students are proposed no more! They are now finalized! As a bit of background information, Delegate Marcus Simon’s HB145 and Senator Jennifer Boysko’s SB 161 bills codified protections for transgender and gender non-binary students in Virginia schools. The bills instructed the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) to draft the model policies for these groups of students. Now that the public comment period is over and the policies have been finalized, School Boards will be required to adopt these policies (or policies that may even been more comprehensive) at the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year. TGEA would like to thank all who were instrumental in the creation of these policies and those who spoke up in favor of them during the public comment period. Many Virginians are working towards making this state inclusive for all! If you wish to see these policies, you can access them HERE.
